Our city Ōtautahi, Christchurch, has been dubbed New Zealand’s
‘newest’ city as it continues to rebuild from the earthquakes 15 years ago. It
still retains the lush greenery of the “Garden City” with the green spaces of
Hagley Park, the Botanic Gardens & Deans Bush/ Pūtaringamotu, all of which are major
landmarks in sight on your flight.
The central city from above is a mixture of new urban precincts
and old historic buildings that have been restored. Look down upon our constantly
evolving city. Central city bars, Margaret Mahy playground, Town Hall, and the newly
completed performing arts precinct of The Court Theatre, The Piano, and the
Issac Theatre Royal. The excitement builds as you see Christchurch’s new One
New Zealand stadium, Te Kaha – where we will soon view international rugby and
concerts, finally! Not to forget to mention that many a game is to be won there,
by our favourite local rugby team, the mighty Crusaders.
Look down on the red zone of Christchurch, once filled with
homes before the earthquakes, now known as Ōtākaro Avon River Corridor. A
project to connect people, rivers, and land.
Travel over the Port Hills into Banks Peninsula and Diamond
Harbour, Port of Lyttleton, and Godly Heads. View the coastline north of Pegasus
Bay, Sumner, and New Brighton Beaches towards the stunning Southern Alps and
Canterbury Plains.
