A Taste of Martinborough – Martinborough Foodie Delights Tour
- Duration: 7 Hours (approx.)
- Product code: ATOMMFDT
After picking you up from Wellington, we work our way up the Hutt Valley to our first stop at the Remutaka mountain range summit, 555 metres above sea level where we view the Remutaka Crossing monument commemorating 60,000 New Zealand troops who made the crossing from the military camp in Featherston to the Port of Wellington between 1915 and 1918. Stop is weather dependent.
From the summit it’s about a 15 minute drive down to the quaint South Wairarapa town of Featherston where we visit C'Est Cheese for a platter of up to 5 magnificent New Zealand cheeses (Remutaka Pass cheeses are made on site) from Owner/Cheese Maker Paul Broughton.
After our cheese tasting we visit Karly and Alex Polaschek, Owners/Bee Keepers at Greytown Honey. Alex gets us 'suited up' to safely check out and gain an understanding of the workings of a live beehive. We then take a tour through the factory where Alex explains the end to end honey making process - from the Hive to your Kitchen! You will also have some hands on experience in the factory. We finish up in the tasting room where Karly takes us through their wide range of fabulous honeys including several of their Manuka Honeys!
It’s now time to taste our first wine of the day! From Greytown it’s just a short drive south east to the Pinot Noir Capital of the North Island – Martinborough where we will have tastings and lunch at the famous Poppies Martinborough or Moy Hall Vineyard.
Once our palate needs a change we head off to Olivo or Juno Olives for Extra Virgin Olive Oil tastings where we get to sample a wide range of fabulous oils, many infused with a wide array of flavours. We also have a wander through the olive grove with the Olive Oil maker and gain an in-depth understanding of what it takes to grow Olives and produce outstanding Olive Oil. The Grove tour and tastings may not be available during harvest season mid May-mid June.
Upon completing the Olive Oil tastings we head back to Greytown for our 'Dessert' where we sample artisan produced chocolate at Schoc Chocolates.
We depart for Wellington around 3:30pm getting back to your selected drop off location around 5:00pm.
